New NICE online learning tool for healthcare professionals involved in the care of people with psychosis, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder

NICE has launched a new online learning tool, “Severe mental illness: prescribing and monitoring antipsychotics” in a series of online learning, to help put NICE guidelines into practice.

Developed by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, the tool supports the implementation of NICE clinical guideline 155, Psychosis and schizophrenia in children and young people: recognition and management, NICE clinical guideline 178: Psychosis and schizophrenia in adults: treatment and management and NICE clinical guideline 185:Bipolar disorder: the assessment and management of bipolar disorder in adults, children and young people in primary and secondary care. The tool uses interactive activities and audio to support the recognition, management and monitoring of children, young people and adults with severe mental illness.

The tool offers advice on recognising, treating and monitoring patients with severe mental illness, with a particular focus on the use and monitoring of antipsychotic medicines.

It is available from the NICE website here
