Five Year Forward View for Mental Health – A report from the independent Mental Health Taskforce to the NHS in England

This independent report from the Mental Health Taskforce sets out the start of a ten year journey for that transformation, commissioned by Simon Stevens on behalf of the NHS.

Over 20,000 people told the Taskforce about the changes they wanted to see so that they could fulfil their life ambitions and take their places as equal citizens in our society. Their priorities were prevention, access, integration, quality and a positive experience of care.

The experience of people with mental health problems have been placed at the heart of the report with their voices are quoted throughout.

Recommendations have been set out for the six NHS arm’s length bodies to achieve the ambition of parity of esteem between mental and physical health for children, young people, adults and older people.

Additionally, recommendations for where wider action is needed have been included, and a particular focus has been placed on tackling inequalities at both a local and national level.
