Cambridgeshire County Council Voices Matter Group wins The Children in Care Award.

Cambridgeshire Children in care group Voices Matter has made a huge difference to looked-after young people and professionals. Working tirelessly to improves services for children in care and care leavers, and raise awareness of their needs. It work has included creating Cambridgeshire pledge to Children in care, which sets out what support is available and forms part of the councils corporate parenting strategy. Voices Matter has delivered training sessions to professionals on the pledge and strived to ensure all looked-after young people know about this key policy document.

Their work has had an impact beyond Cambridgeshire. Three animated films, created by the group to highlight the views and feelings of young people in care, have now had more than 40,000 views on YouTube. The young judges were impressed by the groups ”strategic, young people-led approach.”

Other key projects include the creation of dedication ‘Youthoria’ webpage for looked-after young people and care leavers, featuring information, advice and support.
