Academy of Medical Sciences East Anglia Regional Fellows Event

Visual Abstract Competition

Monday 11 June 2018, Homerton College, Cambridge

Competition overview
As a twist on the traditional poster competition, the Academy of Medical Sciences East Anglia Regional Fellows Event offers participants the opportunity to exhibit a visual abstract based on their research. All submissions will be entered for the inaugural Visual Abstract award, which will be judged by a panel on the day.
The award winner will be announced during the event reception and selected based on:
  • Content
  • Clarity and conciseness
  • Design and originality
What is a visual abstract?
Visual abstracts aim to provide a summary of research articles using graphical techniques. They do not seek to replace traditional abstracts, but instead to provide an image-based means of communicating key research messages in an easily digestible format. Visual abstracts are increasingly used to disseminate research on social media, particularly Twitter, and early studies suggest they can be very effective in increasing the reach and audience of research communications. Individual researchers as well as a growing number of journals and organisations are using visual abstracts as part of their communication strategies.
Entrants must register to submit an abstract in advance of the event and by no later than Monday 4 June 2018 by emailing helen.gardner@thisinstitute.cam.ac.uk with a title, the authors’ names, the corresponding author, and the organisation of the principal investigator. Submitted visual abstracts may present any type of scientific study, including systematic reviews and work in progress.
