NIHR SSCR Capacity Building Workshop: From Healthtalk.org to social care

16th January 2020, OLD 4.10, Old Building, London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, London WC2A 2AE

This workshop will discuss the experiences and methods behind the Health Talk online resource for the public (http://www.healthtalk.org/). The website provides free, reliable information about health issues by sharing people’s real-life experiences. A robust methodological approach underpins the development of these resources.

Health Talk is now examining how this experience and approach could be used in social care. In the workshop participants will learn more about the history and experience of Health Talk and have an opportunity to consider how it and the methodology used can connect with their research and care interests.

The workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about and discussing further the application of the Health Talk approach to social care.

The workshop will be run by Professor Sue Ziebland and Dr Sara Ryan from the University of Oxford.

NIHR SSCR Capacity Building Workshop: Implementation science

27th February 2020, CBG 2.06, Centre Building, London School of Economics and Political Science, 2 Houghton Street, London WC2A 2AD

To support improvements in adult social care and the outcomes for people receiving support and carers, there is more focus on how to implement research findings to improve practice. Implementation science provides a basis to think about these issues from the early stages of design of exploratory and evaluative research projects.

This workshop will examine how, through a range of approaches, such as knowledge exchange, implementation evidence, and various frameworks, researchers can engage with and provide a more robust evidence for implementation in their research designs.

The workshop will include, for example, consideration of the use and development of Theories of Change and process evaluation to inform implementation beyond the project.

At the end of the workshop participants will have a better understanding of where to start in thinking about the place of implementation science in their future research proposals and projects.

The workshop is open to anyone interested in developing these ideas in their adult social care research.

The workshop will be run by Professor Annette Boaz from St George’s University of London.
